Our students get a glimpse at what working in engineering looks like
On Thursday 3 February, The Access Project and the Royal Academy of Engineering hosted a live Q&A for our young people. Students contemplating a future in engineering were given the chance to ask experts what engineering is like as a degree subject, as well as get an insight into what it’s like to work as an engineer.
Getting an insight into engineering
Students from up and down the country attended and seven engineers sat on the panel. Our young people asked questions of the panellists ranging from: what kind of A levels they would need to get into engineering, to what life is like as an engineer.
Christian, who goes to one of our schools in London, said: “I found the webinar very helpful. It was good to get to meet people who do engineering and get insight into what it is really like as a career and the places it can take you. All the panellists gave great information regarding their specialised area as well as their experiences at university and in the profession.”
Lynda Mann, who is Head of Education Programmes at the Royal Academy of Engineering, said: “The Engineering Leaders Scholars from the Royal Academy of Engineering were delighted to attend The Access Project’s Q&A event as panellists, helping to support the next generation of engineers. The seven scholars are all recent graduates who have now embarked on diverse and exciting engineering careers and were thrilled to answer questions from the students, and to offer guidance and advice based on their experience to date.”
Enrichment events
Ellie Edwards, our University Events and Student Enrichment Manager, said: “A huge thank you to all of the amazing engineers who spoke with our students. Enrichment events are so instrumental in helping our students to get excited about what their futures could look like – and have definitely given many students a push in the right direction over the years.”
