End of Term celebration: “My tutor has been great and we clicked straight away”
Summer is fast approaching and the 2022/2023 academic year is coming to a close. As we reflect on another successful year, we’re celebrating the hard work of our A level and GCSE students who have shown a commitment to The Access Project’s tutoring and mentorship programme.
Lily is a Year 10 student from the East Midlands. She joined The Access Project at the start of the 2022/2023 academic year, and attended her first Maths tuition session in September. Lily has since attended more than 35 sessions with her tutor, meeting once every school week.
“My journey with The Access Project has been a fantastic experience”, Lily told us. “I am coming to the end of my first year with The Access Project. I have to say I’ve really enjoyed it”.
“My tutor Ian has been great and we clicked straight away”, she added. “He is very good at explaining things and has given me a deeper understanding of the work set in class”.
Ian, one of our volunteers, tutors Lily in GCSE Maths once a week via our online tuition programme.
Ian dedicates one hour per week to volunteer tutoring, using his skills to help young people achieve better grades and raise their confidence.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with Lily over the past year. She is always punctual, diligent, and enthusiastic”, Ian said. “I have found all the tutorials great fun, and Lily has even taught me some new techniques that weren’t shown to me in my student days”.
Students like Lily are twice as likely to attend top universities after studying with The Access Project. One hour of volunteering per week can put a student from a disadvantaged background on track to a good education, giving them the best chance at social mobility.
The Access Project combats educational inequality through widening participation programmes, offering tutoring, mentoring and enrichment opportunities. We empower disadvantaged young people to realise their full potential.
Around 25% of our programme is paid for by schools. The rest is funded by university partners, corporate sponsorships, and donations from people like you. Your donation to The Access Project will give students like Lily the chance to thrive.
